Welland is your City. Let's work together today for a better Welland tomorrow.
Why Vote for Debi Katsmar
It's all about you. It's all about teamwork. It's about looking at the issues, organizing, creating the plan and taking action. While all that is great, it's a cooperative. We all must work together for a thriving, fun and prosperous Welland. One where our citizens are safe, comfortable and receiving the amenities desired. One where our citizens participate in all the City has to offer. One where the City works for its citizens. One where we all work together for the common good! Below you will find some of what I hope to accomplish if elected:
Economic Growth for Welland
I have always been an advocate for business growth, owning a marketing company here in Welland supporting mainly local businesses, but also national and international clients. I will continue to promote Welland to bring new business to the area to support our diverse population in all amenities, products and services required by those living here in the City. In the last few years, I have seen tremendous change in Welland through new businesses and industry moving to the City. This helps to grow our economy, the livelihood and prosperity for the City and its citizens.
Promote Tourism and Build On Future Use & Activities on Our Waterways
Again because of my marketing background, I feel I have a lot to offer in further developing tourism and the use of our waterways (as far as we have come in the past years with the WIFC), this facility, the waterway itself and other facilities are still vastly under-used. I will work with the City Recreation and Tourism departments as well as the economic development office to further attract more use to and of our waterways while preserving the thriving eco-system and watershed areas.
A Clean and Vibrant City
Another priority is cleaning up the hideous buildings and closed plants/businesses that surround our city and downtown core. There are many things that can be done to alleviate these eye-sores and dangers to the community as far as children and youth gaining access accidentally or on purpose. I will work tirelessly with landowners of these properties to step up and clean up while also working with organizations like the Downtown BIA to promote and build a thriving downtown core and beautify the entire City.
I would like to work closely with our volunteer committees and organizations and not-for-profits in Welland to streamline processes within the City for the approvals they require to run their events and provide the services, events and information Welland citizens seek. Whether this is working with the Rose Festival, the NRE, the multi-cultural associations, the Hope Centre and Open Arms Mission, or government services – there is a need to increase the level of offerings in all of these areas. Again the City has worked diligently at upgrading their website for ease of access to information, but the procedures and processes for service providers are not easily found or understood. I believe if there were more procedural manuals and policies in place it would bring a faster and more streamlined approach to making services, amenities and events more accessible and easier to build on and grow.
- Transit and Accessibility within Welland and the Region
- Age-friendly and all-inclusive amenities and services
- Hospital and Health Services
The Welland Rose
We are the Rose City. Where are the roses? The Rose Festival works hard each year to promote the Rose, but other than that, a few token roses on signage and in our City's gardens, the Welland Rose has been lost. I would like to bring back the Rose - what that looks like, I'm not sure yet, but it has always been a pet peeve!
Throughout the 2 ½ years I was chair of the Canada 150 in Welland Committee I watched the participation level (or lack there of) of our elected officials and found many were not active in our community events. I want my council representatives to be visible at as many functions and activities as possible, interact with the people of Welland and be there for them when needed. I have continued to be an active participant at as many events within Welland as I can possibly attend and will continue to do so. If you know me (which you do not yet), you will find I am an open book, always available via phone, email or in person. My business clients all say the same about me – I go above and beyond what is expected. This will hold true should I be elected as your council representative for Ward 2.
On October 22nd, 2018, vote Debi KATSMAR for Ward 2 in Welland.
